Will the good lord restore power to my home?

We went home today to get clothes for tomorrow and utility workers were just North of our house and another was about 2 1/2 miles south of our house. Later when we went past again they had moved past our house going South. Maybe we'll have power by tomorrow!
Maybe my Christmas wish is finally going to come true!

Son of a.....

Well, here I sit at ma and pa Baldwin's for the third night in a row. On Tuesday we woke up to ice covering everything, and many fallen tree branches. One rather large branch fell on the garage and was covering the garage door. I couldn't get my car out, so I didn't go to work. Dwight and Cindy came over to our house because they didn't have electricity. They were around for the morning, and we were all comfortable. A little after noon our power went out. It hasn't been back on since. Later on Tuesday Dwight and Cindy's power came back on, so we have been staying here.

While I am very thankful for a warm home to stay in and meals prepared by someone other than myself, I don't like being out of my home. When we came over on Tuesday I wasn't thinking that we would be gone this long. I hurried around and gathered only the things I wanted for that particular evening. The next morning I had to go early and find my outfit for the day by flashlight. On Wednesday night I had to pick my outfit for Thursday by flashlight, and did the same again on Thursday night.

Now it is snowing. We could possibly get up to 10''. Not my idea of fun. I'm sure this will just delay the process of restoring power. Thousands of people are out of electricity. Rice County is a neighboring county, and every town in the county has no power except for one town. In Hutchinson alone I believe more than 10,000 homes have no electricity. Everybody is in a bad way around here.

This storm is said to be worse than '05 because so many more people have been affected by it. So I've survived so far, but it sucks!

I survived the ice storm of '05!

Yes it's true I survived the ice storm of '05, but will I survive the ice storm of '07? My sources are telling me that it is going to be worse than '05. It will be the most expensive storm ever for Westar Energy. The news says we might get an inch of ice. It is apparently inevitable that the electricity will go out. You can't buy a generator anywhere in McPherson. Adam says that the higher the heat inside, the longer it will take to cool down when the electricity does go off. So our heat is up to 78 degrees.

My endless love

Thanksgiving 2003 was on the 27th of November. I spent with the Combs'. We had a fantastic meal, and I'm sure, went around the table to say what we were thankful for. Little did I know the very next day, I would meet the man I would spend the rest of my life with. Talk about something to be thankful for.

The next day Ben was going out with some of his friends. Rachel and I were lucky enough to tag along. We went to the Polo in Hutchinson and I was introduced to the very funny Adam Baldwin. He had some witty lines in the first few moments after we met. Knowing what I know now, this is a very regular occurrence. We shook hands, and I decided he would be someone fun to flirt with.

Part way through the evening Adam was making a comment about not dating anyone. I said, "So you're not seeing anyone? Maybe we should go out some time...just kidding." Mean I know, but just in case I was going to be rejected, I needed to be prepared. Turns out Adam was a little thrown off by this. Humm, wonder why?

We moved on from the Polo to Lone Star where it was karaoke night. Adam cracked me up when he went up and did Neil Diamond, Forever in Bluejeans. He knew all the words, and even had a little dance. I liked him! He and Ben rode in my car back to Inman. Ben jumped out of the car right away, and Adam and I shook hands again. I held his hand a few seconds longer than you would for a shake and said something along the lines of "How about I give you my phone number, and you call me sometime."

Our first date was on December 3rd. We went to Wichita and ate at Panera. Then we drove back to Newton and went Bowling. It was great! On May 28, 2005, exactly one and a half years to the day that we had met, we were married! Adam and Lantz sang and danced to Forever In Bluejeans at the wedding reception. Our honeymoon was postponed until December. We left town to drive to Texas for the honeymoon on December 2, 2005. One day before 2 year anniversary of our first date. The next year we signed papers on December 4, 2006 making us official homeowners for the very first time. The day after the three year anniversary of our first date.

This time of year has a lot of memories packed into it. Today, my husband and I have known each other for four years, and have been married for two and a half. I am so lucky to have the caring supportive man that I do. He makes me proud to call him my husband.

Snow?

Last night while I was hanging out around the house, I heard Buddy barking. I turned the outside light on to find snow! I hadn't paid any attention to the weather forecast in the last few days, so what a pleasant surprise! It was the first snow of the season! This morning I found Buddy rolling around and running around in it, and later, curled up in the only dry spot he could find. The kitties are all curled up on the front porch by the door. Just like last year!
See, there's Buddy all curled up in the spot where Adam's truck was parked.
